In general, rock salt is used for salting hides. Rock salt, also called Halite, is a mineral: a halide. The chemist of salt in the form is Sodium Chloride (Sodium Chloride). But where does it come from?
Rock salt was created millions of years ago by evaporation of seawater and compressed into a thick 'stone layer'. Salt deposits can be found in large parts of Europe; for example in the east of the Netherlands.
For optimal processing of cattle hides, we recommend rock salt with a moisture percentage of 2-3%. This gives an excellent spread of the salt. More importantly: it does not 'dust' and is therefore less harmful to humans and the life of the machine.
